What is Athletic Training?

The Certified Athletic Trainer is a highly educated and skilled professional specializing in athletic health care. In cooperation with physicians, dentists, chiropractors and other allied health personnel, the athletic trainer functions as an integral member of the athletic health care team in secondary schools, colleges and universities, sports medicine clinics, professional sports programs and other athletic health care settings.

Athletic Training is the practice of prevention, recognition and assessment of any injury sustained by an individual that affects; performance in sports, games, recreation, exercise, or other activity that requires physical strength, agility, flexibility, speed, stamina, or range of motion and the complete management, treatment, disposition and reconditioning of athletic injuries upon the referral of a practitioner licensed in Ohio.

Athletic Trainers have been recognized by the AMA (American Medical Association) as an allied health care profession since 1990.
