Girls Varsity Gymnastics · Berea-Midpark Concludes Season at OHSAA District Meet


The Berea-Midpark gymnastics team completed competition at the OHSAA Mentor District Meet, posting a final team score of 139.675. The top six teams and top 17 individuals and All-Around qualified for the State Meet.  The Titans finished seventh, a slim 0.075 behind No. 6 Strongsville (139.750).  Brecksville-Broadview Heights won the District with their team score of 148.425.

With 16 underclassman on the roster, Head Coach Val Santoro is optimistic for the future of her program.  “I am very proud of what these girls have overcome this year” she said.  “We are a young team.  It is my hope that today will be both a lesson and motivation to build consistency as we prepare for the 2021-22 season.”

Starting on bars, the Titans started out slow, earning a score of 34.000 as a team to finish ninth in the event. Sophomore Brooklyn Varga was the highest-scoring Titan, scoring a 9.075. Junior Julia Gorman added a 8.675 and freshman An Nguyen registered a 8.325.  Finley Devins (7.925), Marissa Jones (7.750) and Maiya Agnew (6.100) rounded out the scoring for Berea-Midpark.

Next on beam, it was Jones who paced the way, with a 8.900.  She was followed by an 8.800 from Nguyen. Megan Cullins finished with an 8.600.  Emma Roig (8.575), Varga (8.450) and Sydney Trella (8.000) helped end the rotation with a score of 34.875.

Trending upwards, the team scored a 35.650 (6th overall) on floor led by a 9.200 for Jones. Varga was right behind her with a score of 9.100.  Finley Devins recorded a, 8.750 on her routine while Roig (8.600), Nguyen (8.525) and Gorman (8.350) finished the scoring.

Ending the meet on a high note, Berea-Midpark posted their best event finish of the day with a 35.15 on vault to finish fourth in the event. Roig highlighted the lineup with an 8.875, and Jones finished off the Titans scoring with a 8.850. Devins hit on her second attempt with a 8.775, while Varga (8.650), Nguyen (8.125) and Julia Peabody (8.025) completed the scoring for the Orange and Blue.
