The Berea-Midpark boys and girls swimming and diving teams officially opened their 2019-20 seasons Tuesday with a dual meet against conference rival Olmsted Falls. Berea-Midpark’s boys team battled Olmsted Falls before falling, 100-80, while Berea-Midpark’s girls were defeated by the Bulldogs, 101-80.
Girls Results: Olmsted Falls 101, Berea-Midpark 80
The girls were led by multi-event winner Michelle Dranuski, who took first in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events. The junior finished the 50 in 27.56 and the 100 in 1:00.52.
Mallory Redetzki added a win in the 200 freestyle in 2:14.23. Abby Calaway picked up a victory in the 100 backstroke with her finish of 1:06.67. In relays, both the 200 free and the 400 free relay teams were victorious. Jadyn Zahursky, Megan Thai, Redetzki and Calaway won the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:51.24, while the 400 freestyle relay team of Redetzki, Zahursky, Dranuski and Calaway also took first in 4:04.83.
Divers Eliza Wegner (146.10) and Morgan Hartman (92.50) each finished second and fourth respectively in the one meter dive.
Boys Results: Olmsted Falls 100, Berea-Midpark 80
The boys had three individual event winners. In the fourth event of the evening, junior Jacob Hoessle won the 200 yard freestyle when he touched the wall first in 2:11.38. Roman Wentzel took first in the 100 yard freestyle with his time of 55.83. Caden Dees (197.05) and Kyle Hammond (168.85) took first and second in the one meter dive.
Like the girls, the boys also won both the 200 free and the 400 free relays. The team of Eli Washburn, Hoessle, Ethan Dort and Wentzel claimed first place in the 200 freestyle relay with their time of 1:48.61. In the final event of the night, the Titans 400 freestyle relay of Wentzel, Washburn, Hoessle and Ethan Baker edged the Bulldogs by more than five seconds to win with their time of 3:53.43.
The Titans are back in the Berea-Midpark Middle School Pool on Saturday November 30th as they host Normandy in a dual meet. First event is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
