The Berea City School District unveiled the newly renovated pool at Berea-Midpark Middle School Wednesday at the Titans home opener against Amherst Steele. Improved ventilation through a new HVAC system, new filtration, new spectator seating, floor repairs, fresh paint and a top-quality sound system are just some of the items included as part of the $750,000 in upgrades.
After the ceremony, action got underway in the water against the Comets. The girls team won four events, two by senior Lexi Schuller, who claimed victories in the 200 IM (2:25.03) and the 500 Freestyle (5:40.23). Fellow senior LynnDee Popovich won the 100 Breaststroke with her time of 1:18.88, while junior Mallory Redetzki won the 200 Freestyle, finishing with a time of 2:19.37. Amherst girls won overall on the evening 105-72.
The boys team won two events on the ceremonial night. Senior Colin Neumann was victorious in the 500 Freestyle as he touched the wall first with his time of 5:34.58. Sophomore Roman Wentzel sprinted to victory in the 100 Freestyle with his time of 55.92. The boys however fell to the Comets 122-60.
The Titans will host Avon Lake over Winter Break on Friday December 28th at the Berea-Midpark Middle School Pool. Events begin at 6 pm.
