As basketball season is on the horizon, we would like to look back at players that have gone through our school system and that are still playing at a higher level. The first player that will be spotlighted is 2004/05 Midpark High School graduate Lee Roberts.
Lee was an athletic, 6’8, power forward for the Meteors and for Coach Duke Barther. In two years of being a varsity starter, it became very apparent that Lee was a winner. He averaged over 16 points and 10 rebounds per game during those two years. He also had over 20 dunks his senior year and led Midpark history in career-blocked shots with 142. More importantly, Lee helped lead the Meteors to a record of 39 wins and 5 losses in his two seasons as a starter. Midpark won back-to-back conference championships in 03/04 and 04/05, Lee’s best years. During his senior year, Midpark ended the season ranked 4th in the Plain Dealer Top Twenty and 8th in the final AP Division 1 State Poll, and finished the regular season with a perfect 20-0. Lee was a two time first team all-conference performer, and an all-district honorable mention all-state selection. Lee continued helping his team succeed at the next level.
Following High school, Lee accepted a basketball scholarship to Findlay University. He was an integral part of the teams’ successes over his time spent there (2005-2009). In his senior season, Lee was an integral part of a Findlay team that finished the season at 36 wins and 0 losses and the NCAA Division II National Championship. He averaged over 11 points and 6 rebounds per game. More importantly, his Findlay teams had a combined 116 wins and 12 losses in his four seasons on the team.
After college, Lee was given the opportunity to play basketball overseas at the professional level. For the past eight years, Lee has been playing professional basketball– an opportunity that has allowed him to continue to play a game that he loves while traveling the world. His professional career has taken him to Germany, Australia, Japan, Argentina, Venezuela, China, Israel; and currently, Italy. Examples of Lee’s individual and team successes are his championships with the Estudiantes Concordia (Argentina 2012-13), the Ironi Ness Ziona (Israel 2016-17), and the Perth Redbacks (Australia 2017-present)
