Berea-Midpark High School
Westlake High School
Facing an opponent who ended the Titans season last year on a sour note, Berea-Midpark fell behind early but would run away from the Demons in the second half for a 65-36 victory on Friday night in Westlake.
The Titans defense stepped up in the second half and forced two Westlake turnovers. The offense fed off the momentum and outscored the Demons 37-16 after halftime.
Coming off an impressive season opener, junior running back Bryce Agnew ran for a game-high 188 yards on 14 carries, averaging 13.4 yards per carry, and scoring three times on the evening (2 rushing touchdowns, 1 receiving touchdown).
Junior quarterback Trevor Bycznski was 17-of-32 passing for 245 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran six times for 79 yards and three touchdowns.
Luis Vega recorded his second straight 100+ receiving game by hauling in five receptions for 112 yards and a score on the evening. The senior also lead the team in tackles, recording 7 for the Titans.
Coach Jon Hunek believes the time his team spent conditioning and in the weight room this off-season is the reason the Titans are beginning to respond positively to adversity. “I really felt we played great last week barring the first quarter, and we wanted to keep that momentum going into tonight’s game” Hunek said. “We are still working on getting off to a fast start, but our kids responded really well to an up and down game early to really dominate the second half.”
The Titans will travel to Lakewood on Friday September 8th to battle the Rangers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
